From January to April 2025, 17.1 million packs of topical wound-healing medicines[1] worth 5.1 billion rubles (in retail prices, including VAT) were sold on the Russian retail market. According to the database “Audit of retail sales of medicines in Russia (total sales out)” of the analytical company RNC Pharma, the monetary sales volume increased by 15.9% over the year. At the same time, natural consumption remained virtually unchanged (+0.3%). A total of about 54.6 million packs of medicines for the treatment of wounds of both groups (D03A and D06A) worth 14.7 billion rubles were purchased at retail in 2024, compared to 2023, sales increased by 0.4% in packs and by 16.9% in value terms.
As a rule, wound-healing medicines are most in demand in summer. Last year, sales of wound care products reached their peak in July - during the month, Russians purchased 5.4 million packs worth 1.5 billion rubles - in April this year, expenditures exceeded 1.3 billion rubles (+18.2% vs. April 2024), while natural consumption remained virtually unchanged - about 4.4 million packs (+0.7%).
Antibacterials (D06A) account for about 70% of all natural sales in the analyzed category of products. Moreover, over several years, natural consumption increased only in this group. It should be noted that most of the products in the D03A group contain dexpanthenol (64% of the packs), and this substance is included in a significant number of cosmetic products, which, obviously, pull the demand within the category.
At the end of the first four months of 2025, a total of 33 INNs of wound-healing and antibacterial products were represented in retail, which were included in 64 brands. In the analyzed period, products from 61 corporations were sold. The absolute leader in terms of demand is Bayer Healthcare brand Bepanten (22% share in rubles) - 1.3 million packs of this brand were sold for 1.1 billion rubles over four months. As compared to January-April 2024, sales of Bepanten increased by 16% in terms of rubles and by 6.4% in terms of packs. The second position is held by the antibacterial medicine Levomekol produced by Nizhpharm with the sales share of 21.2%. The third and fourth positions in the ranking are held by two more antibacterial products: Oflomelid (Binnopharm) and Baneocin (Sandoz). Oflomelid moved up one rank over the year due to stronger growth in sales in rubles (+33%), which enabled it to surpass Baneocin - the brand shares differ slightly - 10.1% and 10%, respectively. At the same time, the latter was also characterized by high dynamics, at +27% in rubles.
In the analyzed period, among the top ten brands, a decrease in sales was noted for the unbranded medicine D-Panthenol, which was produced by three companies in the reporting period. In addition to Oflomelid and Baneocin, Fucidin (INN fuzidic acid) by Leo Pharma showed the highest growth among the top products - spending on this brand increased by 27% over the year.
Outside the top ten, the maximum growth was observed for Bactroban (INN mupirocin) from GSK. Compared to January-April of the previous year, the natural sales of the brand increased 15 times - the growth was due to low base in 2024, when relative to the same period of 2023 sales decreased by 93% in packs. This year, the brand's sales volumes have started to recover.
