Based on the results for January–November 2025, a total of 9.98 million medical thermometers of all types were sold on the Russian retail market (including marketplaces and the FMCG channel), with total sales amounting to RUB 3.18 billion (at retail prices, including VAT). Compared with January–November 2024, value sales of thermometers stagnated, while physical consumption declined by 2.6%. It should be noted that after the massive surge observed in 2022, the indicator of physical sales dynamics has failed to return to positive territory for the third consecutive year. In 2024, the decline in thermometer sales in units amounted to -2.8%, while in 2023 it stood at -1.7%. Notably, despite the overall contraction in demand, the e-commerce segment for medical thermometers demonstrated noticeable growth, both in value terms (+14.6%) and in units sold (+20%). However, the total volume of online sales remains relatively small: in January–November 2025, it accounted for only 12% of physical sales and around 15% of the market in value terms.
The lowest demand for thermometers is traditionally observed during the warm season: in the summer of 2025, Russians purchased between 500,000 and 800,000 units of such devices per month. Peak consumption typically occurs in December and January; however, purchasing activity in this category largely depends on the epidemiological situation in the country. Last year, according to data from the Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza, the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections increased in March and September, which precisely correlates with peaks in thermometer sales on the retail market. According to the RNC Pharma database "Audit of Retail Sales of Medical Devices in Russia (total sell out)", March recorded the absolute maximum in thermometer sales over the first eleven months of 2025: more than 1.3 million devices for measuring body temperature were sold, with total consumer spending reaching RUB 416.7 million. The next sales peak was observed in September, when buyers purchased 1.2 million units worth RUB 374.2 million. Nevertheless, both of these peaks are significantly lower than the results achieved in December 2023, when 1.7 million thermometers were sold for a total of RUB 525.5 million.
Approximately 58.5% of physical sales volume in the thermometer market is generated by analogue devices (mercury and non-mercury). However, in recent years the share of mercury thermometers has been declining, as demand gradually shifts toward electronic and infrared devices, as well as gallium-based thermometers that do not contain toxic components.
Within the segment of electronic and infrared devices, the absolute leaders in terms of value sales remain the companies B.Well and A&D. During the reporting period, these corporations accounted for 29.3% and 19.8% of value sales, respectively. At the same time, growth in value sales was demonstrated only by devices from A&D (+24%); the company’s physical sales volume increased by 38% compared with January–November 2024. In contrast, B.Well lost 5% in physical units, while consumer spending on its products declined by 1.3%.
Most devices in the analogue segment are represented by unbranded models, which account for around 45% of the group. Among branded products, the Amrus trademark has taken the lead (21% of value sales), demonstrating a 2.7-fold increase in sales over the year, both in value terms and in units. Thermopribor dropped to second place: compared with January–November 2024, its sales declined by 36% in value terms and by 28% in physical units.
