The Russian retail market for intra-articular implants demonstrates confident upward dynamics, developing primarily through the traditional pharmacy segment. Despite the overall dominance of hyaluronic acid-based products, the segment is characterized by rapidly growing demand for collagen-containing devices as well.

The Russian retail market for synovial fluid prostheses for intra-articular injections (including the online channel and the clinical segment) maintained a steady growth trend in January–July 2026. During this period, total sales volume reached RUB 16.3 billion (at retail prices, including VAT), corresponding to long-term growth of 17.7% compared to the same period in 2025. In physical terms, the market volume in the first seven months of this year amounted to approximately 1.3 million packages, showing an increase of 9.7%. These results continue the consumption trend of previous years. For example, in the full year 2025, buyers purchased 2.1 million packages of these medical devices worth RUB 24.6 billion, ensuring market growth compared to 2024 of 16.2% in physical terms and 24.7% in monetary terms. A year earlier, growth was recorded at +15.2% in packages and +23.3% in rubles compared to 2023.

According to the "Retail Audit of Medical Device Sales in Russia (total sell out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, traditional pharmaceutical retail maintains absolute dominance in the overall distribution structure of synovial fluid prostheses: more than 96% of the total sales volume of intra-articular implants is sold through offline channels. At the same time, the key link in physical distribution is the pharmacy segment, which accounts for approximately 90% of the market in physical terms and about 89% in monetary terms, despite the fact that the products are used directly in clinical settings. In turn, the e-commerce sector shows annual but rather moderate expansion of its presence. Compared to January–July 2025, consumer spending on online purchases in this category increased by 13.9%, and physical demand increased by 5.8%. Meanwhile, offline channels provided growth of 17.8% in monetary terms and 9.9% in physical terms.

The structure of the Russian intra-articular implant market is characterized by a pronounced dominance of hyaluronic acid-based products, which account for nearly 67% of the physical volume and more than 76% of the category's monetary volume. This sector includes products containing sodium hyaluronate both in pure form and in combination with additional components, with consumer ruble spending on this group of products increasing by 12.8% over the year. About 15% of the physical sales volume is occupied by polynucleotide-based products (the brand Chronotron from MKNT Import). Also, a significant part of the market is formed by three collagen-based brands, accounting for approximately 16.3% of sales in packages. It is precisely collagen-containing implants that demonstrated the highest dynamics during the reporting period, providing a total revenue increase of 45.6% year-on-year.

The competitive environment in the analyzed category in the first seven months of this year was represented by 46 trademarks from 34 corporations. Absolute leadership in value volume is held by the brand Flextron (based on sodium hyaluronate), whose share exceeded 39.3% of total ruble sales, with a significant lead over other market participants. This line is supplied by MKNT Import, which is the authorized representative of the manufacturers, and the production itself is localized at plants in Germany and Taiwan. Second place in the ranking is occupied by the aforementioned Chronotron, accounting for about 13.2% of ruble revenue in the category. The top three is rounded out by the brand Hyalum from the Romanian company Rompharm, with a ruble share of 7.2%. Within the top ten, the highest growth was demonstrated by the collagen-containing prosthesis Compositron (distributor — MKNT Import, production — San Marino): compared to January–July of last year, its sales increased by 76% in monetary terms and 71% in physical terms. Outside the TOP-10, the highest growth rates were recorded for the Italian implant Promovia from Innate, whose ruble sales increased 14-fold, and the domestic Hiallong from the Scientific Center "Bioform," which showed a 13-fold increase in sales compared to January–July 2025, which is partly due to the low base effect, as the Russian brand only entered the market last year.
