Pharmaceutical enterprises localized in Russia demonstrate steady expansion of the physical volume of finished medicinal product (FMP) output, accompanied by stable growth in the industry's total monetary value. Positive production dynamics were recorded in more than half of the therapeutic groups, some of which showed double-digit figures in packages.

Based on the results of the first eight months of 2026, pharmaceutical enterprises localized in Russia demonstrated stable upward dynamics. From January to August, the total value of released finished medicinal products reached RUB 741.6 billion (at manufacturer selling prices, including VAT), which is 18.2% higher than in the same period last year. Physical output volumes also continue to increase. According to the "Production of Medicinal Products in Russia" database from the analytical company RNC Pharma, from January to August of this year, domestic and foreign pharmaceutical enterprises located in our country released approximately 2.63 billion packages of FMPs into civil circulation. In terms of minimum dosage units (MDU), this figure amounted to 56.6 billion units. Compared to January–August 2025, production volume increased by 4% in consumer packages and 6% in MDU.

In August of this year, the industrial production volume of finished medicinal products amounted to 305.7 million consumer packages, or 6.6 billion minimum units. In value terms, total shipments in August exceeded RUB 89.5 billion, surpassing the same period last year by 16.1%.

Based on the results of January–August 2026, exactly half of the TOP-30 largest pharmaceutical groups by physical volume demonstrated positive shipment dynamics. Absolute leadership in growth rates was recorded in the intestinal adsorbents segment (group A07B), with total output increasing by 28% in packages compared to the same period last year. This trend was driven primarily by activated charcoal and dioctahedral smectite, whose production grew by 76% and 31%, respectively. The main manufacturer of activated charcoal is Pharmstandard, whose production of the drug more than doubled over the year. For dioctahedral smectite, the key company is Genel, which increased output of this product by 96% during the reporting period.

High rates of production expansion were also shown by hypoglycemic drugs from the biguanide group (A10J) and lipid-lowering agents (C10A) — the output of both groups increased by 26% in physical terms. In the biguanide segment, the key growth factor was a significant increase in the production of metformin-based drugs. In the cholesterol-lowering category, the rise was driven both by traditional base drugs — atorvastatin (+29% in packages) and rosuvastatin (+35%) — and by ezetimibe-based products, which demonstrated the most pronounced growth at +69%.

The largest share among the leading growth therapeutic groups was occupied by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (group M01A), which accounted for more than 4% of the total physical volume of pharmaceutical production in January–August, with output growth of +11% in packages. Noticeable volume expansion was also recorded in the antiulcer drug group (+20%), which accumulated almost 3% of total FMP output during the reporting period. Within this segment, unprecedented dynamics were demonstrated by the original drug Nexium from AstraZeneca, which undergoes final packaging at the AstraZeneca Industries plant in Kaluga. Compared to January–August 2025, the drug's output volume increased eightfold.
