The Russian retail market for test strips for blood glucose meters (including online and FMCG channels) reached RUB 12.4 billion in 2025 (at retail prices, including VAT). Compared to 2024, the ruble growth rate was recorded at 11%. According to the database "Retail Audit of Medical Device Sales in Russia (total sell out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, over 657.7 million test strips were sold at retail during the year, with physical consumption remaining almost unchanged at +0.3%.
Typically, demand for these products in retail increases in spring and towards the end of the year. Last year, spending on test strips increased significantly in March, with Russians spending over RUB 1.1 billion during the month. A second peak occurred in December, when the maximum physical sales volume in the last three years was recorded — buyers purchased over 65 million test strips worth RUB 1.22 billion. Minimum demand is usually observed in summer; for instance, in June 2025, pharmacies sold less than 49.5 million strips worth RUB 937.5 million. It is noteworthy that last year, the retail test strip market grew solely due to online sales (+21% in units), while pharmacy retail is losing customers (-4% in units), maintaining slight ruble growth (+6%) only due to the inflationary factor. In total, the online channel accounted for over 21% of all physical test strip sales in 2025; its role has increased nearly 5-fold over the past 4 years.
Sales of blood glucose meters have shown stable growth for the third consecutive year. In 2025, over 2 million units were sold at retail, with the ruble volume reaching RUB 4.4 billion. Over the year, demand for glycemic control devices increased by 25% in physical terms, and total expenditures rose by 24%. The most active growth (+59% in packages) was recorded in the segment of continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS), confirming the long-term trend towards digitalization of health monitoring. In January-February 2026, this trend became even more pronounced — compared to the same period in 2025, CGMS sales doubled.
On the retail market (including online), over 50 brands of test strips were represented in 2025. Interestingly, in the e-com segment, the assortment of these products is approximately 40% wider, with Chinese products being predominantly represented. Over the last three years, the retail assortment has been supplemented by about 20 new products, although they currently account for less than 1% of total value sales. The top three leaders in the test strip market remain stable but demonstrate divergent dynamic indicators. The brand Accu-Chek from Roche maintains first place with a 34.1% share, despite a decline in sales in rubles (-1.3%) and units (-5.7%). The brand OneTouch (Johnson & Johnson) holds the second position (22.4%) with confident demand growth (+8% in rubles). Rounding out the top three is the brand Contour (Ascensia) with a 17.5% share, which showed a sharp drop in physical sales (-16.9%) while simultaneously experiencing a 28.9% increase in value volume. In the first two months of the current year, the top players maintain their positions. The maximum growth rate within the top ten was shown by the American brand On Call from Aikon Laboratories — compared to January-February 2025, sales increased by 59% in value terms.
