In 2025, Russian household spending on veterinary drugs in specialized pharmacies and pet stores exceeded RUB 49.1 billion (at retail prices, including VAT). Compared to 2024, total expenditures on this product category increased by 17.7%. Over the past year, nearly 280.4 million minimum dosage units (MDU) of animal medicines were sold, which is 14% more than in 2024.

According to the database "Retail Audit of Veterinary Drug Sales in Russia (Total Sell-Out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, retail prices for veterinary drugs on the Russian market (including online sales) increased by 13% in 2025. Notably, inflation was higher in the segment of domestic animal medicines, particularly pronounced in the second half of the year, when the price index stood at no less than 17%. For imported veterinary drugs, the inflation rate gradually declined towards the year-end, reaching no more than 7.9% in December.

It is important to note that the overall sales dynamics of veterinary drugs in 2025 were driven by domestic products. Compared to 2024, their sales increased by 36.9% in value terms and by 26.7% in volume terms. Meanwhile, physical demand for products from foreign companies significantly decreased (-11.1% in MDU), and sales value stagnated (-0.1% in Russian currency). As a result, the volume share of domestic products exceeded 74%, and their value share reached 56%.

The general trend of expanding the range of products in higher price segments is inevitably being observed in the retail veterinary market as well. Sales volume of animal medicines in the premium price categories have more than doubled over the past three years. This was particularly evident for domestic products, driven by the active development of product portfolios by local manufacturers. Compared to 2022, the ruble value of Russian products priced above RUB 1,000 increased nearly ninefold. The maximum growth rate for this price range was specifically noted in 2025, when the monetary volume of domestically produced drugs priced above RUB 1,000 nearly quadrupled compared to the previous year, reaching 17.5%, whereas it did not exceed 6.5% the year before. A significant role in this was played by the 2024 new product, the insectoacaricidal drug Tixfli, from the company Vetfarmstandart, with an average price of around RUB 3,000. It has already entered the top five Russian products, and its sales volume in 2025 exceeded RUB 1.3 billion.

However, by the end of 2025, the price segment from RUB 100 to RUB 500 still dominated the category of Russian animal medicines, although its share has been rapidly declining in recent years. While it accounted for over 62% in 2022, it now represents only 44.6%. In this category, the bulk of sales comes from ectoparasitic and anthelmintic drugs, such as Bars (Agrovetzashchita) and Inspector (Ekoprom).

For foreign drugs, the premium price segment, with products costing over RUB 1,000, remains the most significant, accounting for 38.7% of sales in 2025. Here, the main volume (over 59% in rubles within this category) was generated by the brands Simparica from Zoetis and Bravecto from MSD. Notably, Simparica moved into the premium price segment in 2024 when its price increased noticeably. Regarding the cheapest products, priced below RUB 100, both foreign and domestic veterinary drugs in this segment occupy a small share — around 18.1% (Russian) and 8.6% (imported) — and the overall significance of this segment continues to decline.
