After several years of steady growth, the Russian market for tick-borne encephalitis prevention vaccines began to contract in 2025. According to the database "Monitoring of the Release of Medicinal Products into Free Circulation in Russia" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, approximately 5.25 million doses of the corresponding vaccines were released onto the Russian pharmaceutical market last year, which is 11.3% less than in 2024. Prior to this, the absolute minimum was also recorded in 2021, when the Russian healthcare system received only 5.17 million doses. The monetary value of these drugs also showed a decline for the first time in a long time, falling by 7.2% (to RUB 2.14 billion at distributor prices, including VAT). The downward trend continues into the first months of 2026. In January–February 2026, 792,600 doses were released onto the market, 13% less than in the same period last year, with the value volume reaching RUB 339.6 million (-9% compared to January–February 2025). However, a significant volume of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines was released in March 2026, so the first quarter results may be significantly more optimistic.
Currently, only domestically produced drugs are represented on the Russian market. The leader in terms of total doses released into circulation is the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immune and Biological Products, which supplied over 3.3 million doses in 2025, accounting for nearly 64% of the total volume. The remaining volume was provided by Nacimbio, which accounted for approximately 1.9 million doses last year. Both companies showed a decrease in the total volume of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines released into circulation in 2025. Previously, imported analogues were also present on the Russian pharmaceutical market, in particular Encepur from Novartis and FSME-Immun from Baxter, but their supplies ceased in 2016 and 2014, respectively.
Under normal conditions, the provision of these drugs should be carried out within healthcare facilities. However, due to periodic supply disruptions, people are often forced to purchase the drug in pharmacies. In 2025, 903,900 doses of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines worth over RUB 268 million (at retail prices, including VAT) were sold in our country. Physical demand for the vaccine decreased by 6% compared to 2024. Earlier in 2024, physical dynamics were also negative (-10% compared to 2023), while significant demand growth was recorded in 2023, when pharmacy sales of the drug increased by almost 17%. In the first three months of 2026, according to the "Retail Audit of Drug Sales in Russia (total sell out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, pharmacies have already sold 311,800 doses, which is 9.2% more than in Q1 2025.
In the structure of regional demand, the endemic Ural and Siberian federal districts traditionally hold the lead. The absolute maximum in sales is recorded in Sverdlovsk Oblast, which accounted for nearly 46% of the entire retail market in Q1 2026. However, consumption growth here is relatively modest, at only +14% compared to Q1 2025. Significant dynamics were seen in the Republic of Karelia, where retail sales of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines increased 3.2-fold over the year, as well as in Arkhangelsk Oblast and the Republic of Bashkortostan, where the number of doses sold increased 2.1-fold over the year.
