In the first four months of 2026, Russians purchased nearly 16.79 million packages of antifungal drugs1 on the retail market, amounting to RUB 5.69 billion (at retail prices, including VAT). The monetary sales volume increased by 3.4% over the year, with positive dynamics in this category observed for the third consecutive year. However, the physical sales volume decreased by 6.6%, with the decline affecting both systemic dosage forms and topical preparations. This trend continues the dynamics of previous years. In total for 2025, approximately 54.1 million packages of antifungal drugs from both groups (D01A and J02A) were purchased at retail, worth RUB 17.2 billion. Compared to 2024, sales decreased by 1.4% in packages and increased by 8.4% in value terms.
According to the "Retail Audit of Drug Sales in Russia (total sell out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, the divergent dynamics of the two analyzed antifungal subgroups recorded in previous periods gave way to a general decline by early 2026. While demand for topical preparations showed monthly growth throughout 2025, their physical sales began to decline noticeably in the first months of this year. It is worth noting that in previous years, topical products maintained stable positions, showing annual growth ranging from 0.4% to 1% in packages. Meanwhile, the systemic antifungal segment has been showing a protracted decline for several consecutive years. In 2024, the physical sales volume of such drugs decreased by 3.9%, and by the end of 2025, negative dynamics were recorded at -3.5%.
The antifungal market shows seasonal growth from March to September. In 2025, peak sales in July reached 4.9 million packages worth RUB 1.6 billion, exceeding July 2024 figures in monetary terms by 10%, although this was accompanied by a 0.9% decrease in package demand. In 2025–2026, the trend of revenue growth with falling physical consumption continues, as confirmed by data for April 2026, when spending increased by 4.3% (to RUB 1.6 billion), while sales in packages decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period last year. It is also worth noting that the periods of peak demand for systemic drugs generally coincide with the peaks in consumption of topical antifungal agents.
In the first four months of this year, the retail assortment of antimycotics decreased by eight brands, to 105 trademarks based on 29 INNs. In this context, the exit from the market of drugs such as Batrafen (Sanofi) and Safocid (Nizhpharm) can be highlighted. At the same time, the category's assortment is being renewed through the appearance of new products, mostly topical preparations based on naftifine and amorolfine. Drugs with the active substance naftifine in this group accounted for more than 23.8% of spending. However, in physical terms, the main volume (46% in packages) comes from fluconazole-based drugs. The largest Russian spending within the group was also directed to unbranded fluconazole drugs, with an 11.8% ruble share. During the reporting period, 22 companies manufactured this drug, with Medisorb among the leaders. Over the year, drug sales increased by 1.7% in rubles, but physical consumption of the brand is falling; compared to January–April 2025, sales decreased by 9.6%. In second place rose Terbinafine from 14 different manufacturers (key company Vertex) with an 8.1% share. In third place in the ranking is the trademark Exoderil from Sandoz with a 7.9% share of total sales.
