Demand for iron supplements in Russian pharmaceutical retail has been steadily growing for the fourth consecutive year. Moreover, in April and September of this year, the category recorded a historical record for daily sales. Changes in the top ten brands in this group are also noteworthy.

In the period from January 1 to September 20, 2026, iron supplements (group B03A) worth RUB 11.8 billion were sold on the Russian retail market (at retail prices, including VAT) — 18.5% more than in the same period last year. During this time, Russians purchased over 12.4 million packages — physical dynamics compared to the same period in 2025 were recorded at +13.5%. Last year also saw high market activity, expressed in double-digit growth rates for both value volumes and physical sales.

The retail market for iron supplements shows clear seasonal cyclicality: a traditional surge in consumer activity is recorded in the spring and autumn months. According to the "Retail Audit of Drug Sales in Russia (total sell out)" from the analytical company RNC Pharma, in April 2026, an absolute historical record was recorded on the Russian retail market for iron supplements: monthly sales exceeded 1.6 million packages, significantly surpassing even the peak figures of the spring consumer surge of 2022. The maximum level of demand occurred in the middle of the month — on April 15, about 64 thousand packages were sold in the country's pharmacies. Over the following two days, retail sales adjusted slightly but remained at high levels (over 60 thousand packages daily). A traditional decline in consumer activity was observed on weekends, when daily volumes fell to about 36 thousand packages. No similar level of activity was repeated on the market until autumn, when on September 16, sales volume again demonstrated a sharp rise, reaching 62.6 thousand packages. By the end of the week — September 20 (Sunday) — daily demand for iron supplements naturally decreased to 35.3 thousand packages.

In the ranking of consumer preferences on the Russian retail market for drugs used to treat iron deficiency conditions, the undisputed leader remains the brand Sorbifer Durules from Egis (part of the Servier group). The brand accounts for 28.7% of all physical sales and more than 24.7% of total spending in the group. Compared to the same period last year (January 1–September 20, 2025), the brand demonstrated confident growth: ruble revenue increased by 10%, and package sales rose by 15%. Second place in the ranking by monetary sales volume rose to Ferinject, an intravenous solution from Vifor Pharma, showing significant dynamics of +77% in rubles, with physical demand for the drug increasing by 90%. Such pronounced growth is largely due to the low base effect of 2025, when there was a shortage of this drug in the retail segment. Third place dropped to Ferrum Lek (Sandoz) with a 14.5% monetary share; during the analyzed period, the brand's sales stagnated in rubles (+2%), and physical demand even decreased by 5% in packages. A significant decline in sales was also recorded for the brands Likferr 100 from Sotex and Venofer from Vifor Pharma — over the year, sales of these brands decreased by 22% and 27% in rubles, respectively.
